PREPARATION

Planning, permits and coordination with contractors are a few of the many steps involved in fiber construction. Arvig engineering will draw a map of the work site and all public underground facilities will be located and marked with various colored flags. Each customer must sign a construction consent form before work can start. 

MAINLINE CONSTRUCTION

Your neighborhood will see increased activity when the construction crews start working on the mainline. Various pieces of equipment and trucks hauling spools of orange cable will be seen until the work is completed. Arvig crews will restore areas impacted by the construction once the work is completed. 

WHAT HAPPENS NEXT

Once the mainline in your area is completed, construction crews will dig and bury the mainline fiber to the structure, this is called a drop. A small box, called an ONT (Optical Network Terminal), will be installed on either an exterior or interior wall of the structure. This box connects the fiber allowing your devices access to the internet.

FIBER CONNECTION

A technician will splice (join two fiber cables together) from the pedestal to the box located on the structure. Once this step is complete, you’re just a few steps away from having Arvig fiber installed at your location.
