Fresh Logistics LLC

Re-Establishing Mission- Critical Dedicated Internet Access With Arvig

Company Profile
Fresh Logistics LLC is a national refrigerated transportation and supply chain solutions provider. While serving an expansive 12-state delivery footprint, the company anchors its core long-haul asset network and fleet support operations in Minnesota. The company is headquartered in Mendota Heights and its over-the-road fleet operates out of Wood Lake. Fresh Logistics also operates two truck and trailer repair shops in Wood Lake and Wadena.

Challenge
In the transportation sector, every connection is crucial. In the same way that a physical hitch couples a truck to a trailer, an internet connection connects a fleet to its freight, dispatchers to drivers, and supply chains to their destination. Without either, the wheels of the business don’t turn at all.

For Fresh Logistics, keeping those wheels turning requires massive operational capacity. The national refrigerated carrier relies on a 500 Mbps Dedicated Internet Access (DIA) circuit from Arvig to anchor its long-haul asset network.

In an industry that runs on heavy-duty equipment, DIA is the digital equivalent: a high-capacity connection built for the long haul. It powers everything internet-related at the company, from email and internal support systems to the high-volume logistics software and time-sensitive coordination required to safeguard perishables and ensure that deliveries arrive on time.

During a recent network migration, Fresh Logistics initiated a scheduled disconnect of their primary DIA circuit, planning to transition operations temporarily to their backup DSL connection. But soon after the transition, operations almost ground to a halt—DSL simply didn’t have the speed and bandwidth to handle the critical, data-dependent operations of the company. Realizing the backup could not carry the load, Fresh Logistics reached out to Arvig with an urgent request to re-provision and reconnect their dedicated fiber circuit as soon as possible.

Opportunity
When the realization hit, the clock started ticking. Reconnecting a major fiber circuit typically takes days, if not weeks. However, the urgency was clear, and Arvig’s Channel Partner and Network Operations Center jumped into action.

Joe Unger of Vaultas, acting as the independent Arvig Channel Partner and technology adviser for Fresh Logistics, immediately recognized the severity of the operational bottleneck. Unger contacted Michael Dumke, Channel Partner Account Executive at Arvig. Recognizing that a national supply chain was on the line, Dumke coordinated with the Arvig Network Operations Center (NOC) engineering team to elevate the reconnection to a top priority.

“A disconnected circuit was rebuilt and restored in under five hours,” Unger said. “In my 20 years of doing this, I’ve never done that with a carrier the size of Arvig. Impressive!”

Solution
The result was unprecedented. In less than five hours, the disconnected circuit was rebuilt and restored. This wasn’t just a technical fix; it was a testament to Arvig’s responsiveness and the fundamental difference between dedicated and shared internet services. While DSL might seem like a cost-saver, it lacks the performance guarantees that businesses like Fresh Logistics require. When the stakes were high, Arvig delivered.

“Without Arvig’s prompt response our operations would have been dead in the water,” said Myron Howell, Director of OTR Distribution at Fresh Logistics. “We depend on dedicated internet to manage our fleet across the country, and we are incredibly grateful to Arvig for moving so quickly to restore our essential service. Arvig understands the high-stakes nature of our business and treats our emergencies with the exact same urgency we bring to our own clients.”
